The next RISC OS User Group of London (ROUGOL) meeting will take place on 20th July – tonight – and rather than a guest speaker, the meeting will instead be an open one for general discussion of all things RISC OS.
Bryan Hogan, who organises the meetings, and hosts their online element, notes that they have had a run of eighteen meetings featuring someone delivering a presentation, and talking about something relevant to the RISC OS and/or legacy 8-bit community. And thanks to the power of the internet, those guest speakers haven’t just come from people local to the group’s offline venue, or even just the UK, with talks having been given from as far afield as the Australia and the USA.
With such an impressive run it’s unfortunate that arranging a formal presentation this month wasn’t possible – which is no doubt why the announcement has come so late – but that means tonight is an opportunity to have a more informal discussion with no set topic (apart from the RISC OS part).
So, if you’re roasting in this (mostly) hot summer why not enjoy a cold drink and a chat with fellow RISC OS enthusiasts and join in the ROUGOL discussion tonight? You can do so online from the comfort of the coolest practical spot in your home (or even out in your garden if your wi-fi’s any good) or, if you’re local to London, by joining the group in the pub, with cold drinks on tap.
And if you happen to have something you’re working on that you think people might like to see, but you don’t think would warrant a full presentation at this stage, as this is a more open meeting you could consider giving it a mention as part of the discussion this evening, and maybe even sharing your screen so that people can have an early look?
ROUGOL is always looking for people to give talks at their meetings, so giving an early sneak preview might give you an idea of the sort of interest people might have in your project – and could even be an indicator of whether delivering a more formal presentation to the group in future would be worthwhile.

There are directions to the venue on the ROUGOL website, and you can expect to find members lurking from around 6:30pm. The meeting proper will commence from around 7:45pm.
If you can’t make it to the pub, you can use Zoom if you have a device that can run the software. You’ll also need the log-in credentials, which remain the same as previous meetings – so if you’ve already joined one you should have them, but if not you can get them by contacting ROUGOL. The Zoom meeting should be open for people to join from around 7:30pm.
